Respiratory System Check
Working with the cardiovascular system, the respiratory system is critical in delivering oxygenated blood to working
muscles. Our check reviews dynamic lung function, respiratory muscle fitness and maximum voluntary ventilation.
Until recently it was thought that the respiratory system responded to cardiovascular stimuli and was not a limiting factor in fitness improvement. However, it now appears that independent respiratory conditioning is important.
We assess dynamic and static lung function and maximum voluntary ventilation using electronic spirometry. We use the same equipment to measure respiratory muscle strength.
We report our findings and compare against normative measures in active populations. Training recommendations are provided.
